From enquiry to order, from order to cast parts - with OPTI.V7

You get an enquiry, then simply plan and calculate new parts while accessing your calculation archive, you schedule reservation orders in your production planning and control application, know your basic, finish and delivery dates and bottlenecks, give your customer a realistic price, possible delivery dates and then you get the order, produce and deliver on schedule – all in the shortest possible time.

Sounds good, you say? That’s right, it certainly is.

More than 30 years of experience and process structures from 100 foundries have gone into our FRP system. FRP stands for Foundry Resource Planning. In contrast to the usual ERP systems on the market the focus here is on the complete cycle of a cast part including all the appropriate finishing steps. OPTI maps the complete path from the initial offer through to delivering the finished part – without any compromises. Every foundry is different and that is exactly why OPTI-Standard takes account of a wide variety of casting procedures and material types.

Planning & calculation

Product planning is at the heart of our FRP system but it can also be a useful tool on its own if you want to calculate something quickly. Compared to other systems OPTI does not separate the work plan (or scheduler) from the parts list, but aligns itself to the way the foundry really works. All the resources needed to manufacture a certain cast part are displayed within a tree structure in a multi-step resources plan. It doesn’t matter whether it involves self-produced materials (cores, models, melt), bought-in items (filters/feeders, sand, external services) or services (moulding, cleaning, finishing). This makes it easier to duplicate and change parts, create new parts or, for example, to update changed bought-in materials for several products. The calculation itself – always taking account of the material pricelists and material surcharges which have been entered – is just a “by-product”.

The sales package provides a reliable and clear tool for preparing offers, processing orders, organising shipping and invoicing. It supports all types of order such as trial and first sample, individual, run schedule header and make-and-hold orders for products as well as for tools and models, and for a variety of logistical principles such as review, firm order, consignment stores or trading goods. The comprehensive information system offers a quick and up to date overview of all processes between the company and the customer. 
OPTI’s core competences lie in the seamless interaction between the individual modules, in the visualization of complex price calculations, in the workflow between calculation and sales, and in its interface to production planning and control and inventory management.

Purchasing & Materials Management

In the purchasing program you can handle the complete purchasing management for your company clearly and efficiently.
All the information which the purchaser needs about suppliers and purchase articles together with the storage, usage and price units, as well as various parameters for controlling the purchasing and technical specifications is stored in the master data. By means of a detailed price list function, price conditions and delivery terms are described on the basis of agreed quantity scales so that orders based on order requests can be handled quickly and simply. Material requirements for bills of materials are generated from scheduled orders or can be entered manually. This takes into account the available stocks and minimum stock level requirements, batch order sizes, restocking times and the orders which have already been initiated. The requirements are automatically created according to each order or as an accumulated weekly amount. The purchasing department is provided with an overview of the requirements at an early stage within the prescribed preview period so they can optimise order quantities from a cost and liquidity point of view.

The materials management package is an efficient warehouse management solution for all your products and preproducts, purchasing and stock materials including load carriers, containers, pallets etc. and includes different stock accounts. It covers receipt and issue postings derived from feedback messages sent from production as well as inventory and stock evaluations. These can be entered retrogressively in table format together with the production messages, with feedback on the evaluation of semi-finished and finished stocks and stock item management.

Stock item management is a function which helps to manage articles in the warehouse using identity and batch numbers. For each warehouse receipt message, stock is built up and issued items are entered with reference to the warehouse receipts. This function is for both purchased and stock articles as well as for any parts and pre-products you have produced yourself.

Production Planning and Control (PPC)

The OPTI PPC System is just the tool you need for the operative and strategic planning of your production. With the OPTI PPC System both long and short term scheduling and capacity situations can be controlled and monitored quickly and reliably.
The OPTI PPC System’s strengths are particularly suited for planning and synchronising moulding, melting and casting processes. It is suitable for the different kinds of continuous and discontinuous processes which have to be synchronised and for the availabilities and capacities which have to be checked in different types of foundries:

  • Tool availability, preparation and provisioning, and the availability of moulding boxes and pits for mass castings, coordinating moulding shop and core production, if necessary taking into account pattern plate and core box allocations and combinations, provision of liquid melt to several moulding shop areas in differing material qualities and if necessary forming pouring batches,
  • Taking into account any cooling times needed,
  • Continuity and capacity of cast finishing treatment, possibly with external service providers,
  • Forming heat treatment batches. 

The OPTI PPC System takes care of the requirements for all types of foundry including both typical series producers and jobbing producers. The latest production plans can be accessed online or can be handed over to the plant control system, for example in the moulding plant, to control operations in the control centre.

Quality Management

OPTI Quality Management is an effective instrument for building a cost-efficient supply chain, enabling you to pinpoint and remedy any shortfalls or errors in your workflow management and production process. This is carried out by the integrated test planning for all products and for all manufacturing steps, materials and processes. Test planning and product planning are closely interlinked. 
The test plan includes all target values, test instructions and parameters concerning inspection requirements according to recognised standards, customer specifications or factory regulations. The programs “Test Plan” and “Resource Plan” have the same structure and their data are linked. 
This means all the processes and tests relevant to quality are available directly in the OPTI Resource Plan. Purchased materials, tools and manufacturing resources can be entered in the test plans in the same way as machinery, plant and test devices or even environmental conditions and waste disposal facilities. 
There are various technologies available as standard for transferring test data from the test devices or other systems. This is possible by means of data exchange, database tables or online connections to the acquisition program. 
A comprehensive error and complaint management is also a significant component of the OPTI QM module.
